Multiple Book Update

I'm five books behind in blogging. I don't feel like doing each book a post of its own, to be honest they weren't that awesome or that bad to have their own post. So here we go (in order I read).

Show No Mercy by Cindy Gerard. 3/5 stars.

This is book number one of the Black Ops Series; it follows Gabriel Jones, who was a former military dog who is still doing work for the government but undercover? I can't explain it without holding the book in my hand to copy the exact text Cindy describes it as. Anyways Gabriel saves journalist Jenna McMillan while she is in Buenos Aires, though the experience is everything but safe for Jenna. She rushes back to her parents farm and sticks it out there like a dog with her tail between her legs. Her boss urges her to go back there to cover a big story, which the main person in this big story asks for specifically. Though thats a small reason she is going back to Buenos Aires, its that kiss Gabe gave her before she left.

Show No Mercy wasn't all that bad, the heat between the main characters is not overly steaming or chilling. It also has a some suspense mixed in with romance, okay more like romance is mixed in with all the suspense and fighting. Overall, its a good read. I'll read the next book of course, I'm sure the next main character was also in this book, like a lot of series are like.

Memoirs of a Teenage Amnesiac by Gabrielle Zevin. 3/5 stars.

This book is about a girl named Naomi, who "had" a string of bad luck and fell down a flight of stairs saving the yearbooks expensive camera. That being said, that said fall down the stairs made her lose everything memory from about 4 years ago. She doesn't remember her best friend and Co-Editor of the yearbook, Will or her popular, good looking, athletic boyfriend, Ace. Nor does she remember the fact that she has a boyfriend, is on birth control pills, her parents divorce, her half-sister, why she loves Ace, why Will calls her "Chief" or why she wanted to get out of her photography class. Though through this accident Naomi meets James, who she firsts hear him say "I'm her boyfriend." to the medic so he can come with her to the hospital. Naomi suddenly can't stop thinking about James or why he is so hot and cold to her.

To me this book wasn't everything I wanted it to be. Really I didn't enjoy there being 3 love interests in the book nor did I like the development between her and James. Its not a bad book really but its not all that great. Read it if you want to.

Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver. 4/5 stars.

Before I Fall is about a girl named Samantha Kingston who has it all I guess you can say. She isn't ugly, but she is popular, she has a popular boyfriend who she had been crushing on since elementary school, and 3 good friends who know everything about each other, or so Sam thinks. On February 12, Samantha dies, only to wake up the next day and re-live February 12 over and over for a span of a week. Each day is different for Samantha for when she comes to realizes the life she lives will change everything about that day. If she goes to school, who she talks to, and where she goes or doesn't go, changes something at the end of the day where she is supposed to die.

This book ended exactly how I thought it would. Don't get me wrong I really wished I wasn't right, I so desperately wanted some miracle to happen in the book and the real way I wanted it to end, end. Though honestly I can't say I loved characters in this book. Samantha and her friends were selfish bitches. Samantha was once nerdy and at the bottom of the food chain yet when she rises to the top she has to be heartless and torture others just to be popular? I don't recall high school being like that for me. Truthfully I hated the characters until Samantha began to change, began to revolt: talked to people she wouldn't be caught dead talking to, bailing on her friends, screaming at her friends, dumping her boyfriend and kissing people who are labeled as a loser. But overall, I liked the book. Though it made me really depressed at the end, what can I say the beginning was right. Read it.

White Cat by Holly Black. 3/5 stars.

Curse-workers: people with the ability of the a simple direct touch to skin to skin to change your dreams, memories, luck, emotion, kill you and even transform you into an animal or into an object(though if your turned into an object your therefore dead). Lets not for get the blow-back, which is basically the affect of working someone; a death curse workers fingers begin to rot to eventually die(fall off), emotion workers become unstable, etc. You get the idea.

Curse-workers is outlawed in America thus resulting in the curse-workers either being con artists, in the curse workers mafias, or working for the government. That brings us to Cassel, who comes from a family of curse-workers, yet he is the only one who can't curse but don't get me wrong, Cassel is very much a con artist like the rest of his family; though he is trying hard to fit into his expensive school and cover over the fact that he killed his best friend, Lila. Cassel world begins to change when he starts dreaming about a white cat that helps him reveal some disturbing things about his family.

White Cat isn't a bad book, though I can't place the thought why I didn't enjoy as much. The curse working is new to me, so it wasn't lacking there. I just think it was the story line in general, not that it wasn't bad it just wasn't great. I wanted more, I guess I could say. It is book one of a series, so maybe book 2 will have a better story line. I can only hope before it loses my interest. Oh one last thing, the cat on the cover and the description in the book don't add up. So fail cover, though cute cat, made me think of my cat which happened to be sleeping next to me while I read the entire book.

Forgive My Fins by Tera Lynn Childs. 3/5 stars.

She is a mermaid princess, Lily Sanderson, who cames to land to live with her Aunt Rachel to experience the other half of her life, the human side that is. Her father is King of Thalassinia and her mother was an average human, who died in a car accident on the day her father and mother were supposed to be bonded together. Living the human life for 3 years now, Lily still hasn't gotten the hang of things. She doesn't quite understand the color matching of clothing or putting on make though she tries. Yet really for those three years she has been swooning over Brody Bennett, a swimming god (not literally). Lily has her mind set to ask him to the dance since Brody finally is single again, except one thing is in the way. Or should I say someone is in the way, Quince Fletcher. Lily's main objective on land is to find her bonded mate for life and to bring home to her father so they can rule over the kingdom together, though Lily doesn't know things aren't going to go as exactly as she fantasized about.

I expected more from this book. I really did. It was my first mermaid related book and it kind of disappointed me. I'm not one for characters that swoon over someone for like say three years and he turn out to be a total ass. I'm more for the slow romance kicking in and everything falling into place. Though this is a series, Lily's story is only one book, sadly. It went pretty fast also, which was also another bad part. And oddly I was hoping she would be a kick ass swimmer too on land, but she's not. She can't even get in chlorine without feeling sick. *sigh* Read it if you want to, book 2 doesn't seem like it will be any good either seeing as it's about Lily's cousin who I didn't care for at all.

Darkfever by Karen Marie Moning

Darkfever by Karen Marie Moning.

2/5 stars. I honestly don't know why I even gave it two stars, maybe some part of it was interesting but seriously not a whole lot. I started reading this book maybe 2 weeks ago, I read half of it and put it down and then read 3 other books. Clear sign the book couldn't hold my attention. The sexy cover didn't entail the slightest bit of romance in the book at all, seriously disappointment.

But anyways, here's what Darkfever is about.

MacKayla Lane aka Mac or Ms. Lane, sister is murdered while overseas aboard at college. Mac's family is devastated, her father starts drinking again and her mother never leaves her bed. Mac's world is thrown into pieces with the death of her sister, also having to identify the body because her parents were off on vacation; it will be something she will never forget.

Mac's sisters case is a cold case. The police have closed shortly after her sister was found dead in alley. Mac would have left this alone, if only not for the last message her sister left her. Sprouting all of this nonsense, "I though I was in love with him and he's one of them, Mac! He's one of them! .....We've got to talk, Mac! There's so much you don't know. My God, you don't even know what you are! There are so many things I should have told you, but I thought I could keep you out of it until things were safer for us. I'm going to try to make it home "-she broke off and laughed bitterly, a caustic sound totally unlike Alina- "but I don't think he'll let me out of the country. I'll call you as soon-" More static. A gasp." Mac begins her journey because of this last message her sent her, she gathers all her money and heads to Dublin.

Her first night there, she goes out to look around..to get know the places Alina had been to before. She ends up in a pub and notices a man stealing from behind the bar, yet the bartender isn't even noticing. Mac can't help but stare at the man, he is drop dead gorgeous, "And I got the strangest thought : He's not human." Staring long at this man, her vision plays up and begins to think if she just looked at him harder, she would see him for what he really is. Before she could get herself into trouble, Mac is hit on the head by an elderly woman, telling her to stop staring at him or she'll get all of their kind killed and that she will tell her O' Connor family what she did....but Mac is a Lane. Not an O'Connor.

After a few more events, Mac begins to search for the meaning of a word she heard someone uses. This is what brings her path across, Jericho Barrons. Barrons tells her to get her pretty little happy self back to America and to stop digging or she'll never be able to turn back, but Mac can't stop there; she must know who killed Alina and send the bastard to jail.

There the trouble begins. With trying to find the real meaning of that word and getting involved with Jericho Barrons. She soon discovers she can see the fae and detect an ancient fae power book, that in the wrong hands will damn the human world. So thus bringing Barrons and Ms. Lane together to find the book, though Mac isn't even sure who or what Barrons is, let alone if she can trust him.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Personally I thought this book lacked what I wanted. Romance. Pretty simple, I wanted romance and I got none. All throughout the book Jericho is a total asshole and the whole time your wondering what the hell he is! That drove me insane, I guess I have to read book #2 to actually get a hint to what he is.

Overall the book isn't bad unless your looking for a book packed with suspense and romance than this book isn't what your looking for. Who knows maybe book #2 will be ten times better, I can only hope or this series ends for me at book #2.

Thorn Queen by Richelle Mead

Thorn Queen by Richelle Mead.

4/5 stars. My heart is still pounding after finishing this book, I oh so can't wait for book #3 in the series. Though, sadly the book doesn't come out until January 2011, boo!

Spoilers. Spoilers.

Anyways...

Eugenie is now the queen of Thorn Land but is not a great queen. She rarely visits nor knows what is going on with the kingdom. She is still romantically involved with the kitsune (japanese fox), Kiyo and sets off to go to the fairies type of "baby shower" for Kiyo's ex-lover, Maiween (who is pregnant with Kiyo's baby - which is rare for the gentry to have children). On her way to the baby shower, Eugenie and her guards come upon one of the villages on her land; Eugenie is shocked to find she has villages and that they are in such poor states all because of her.

When Eugenie claimed the land from killing the previously owner, the land took to the image she wanted it. A dessert, where as the land was once covered in green, is now just covered in cactus and sand. The land has left the people with no food and has dried up all their wells. She is also informed that girls from villages have gone missing but only in her land have they been disappearing, leaving Eugenie to figure out who is taking the girls and why.

Besides Eugenie mission to help her people, she is still searching for her half sister who is hell bent on getting pregnant and raising a son who will take over the human world according to the prophecy. As well as avoiding men who wish to get her pregnant and fulfill the prophecy, seeing as it doesn't state which daughter of the Storm King whose son will conquer the human world.

Aside from all her Queen duties, Eugenie begins to get in touch with her magic and to deal with her struggling feelings for Kiyo and Dorian; along with another male coming into the picture.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

My opinion: I looooved this book. I don't really have anything bad to say about it, though I would say Kiyo and her step-father got on my nerves a ton. Though there were also times, Eugenie got on my nerves, only because she refused to accept her powers. Throughout most of the book I wished for Eugenie to just unleash her powers and to stop listening to everyone telling her what to do!

Though one flaw in this book to me, is Kiyo. I'm sooo for Dorian!

Read the books. I read the first book some time ago way before I began blogging, but I'll just say I rated it 4/5 stars like this one! So get to reading. Plenty of time to read them, since book three isn't out until 2011. *sigh*

Jacob by Jacquelyn Frank

I think I'm on a erotic path of books right now, I should venture back to young adult for awhile, before these books begin to get old.

Jacob by Jacquelyn Frank.

4/5 stars.

After reading A Hunger Like No Other, this book seemed less-steamy, though not lacking in any sense. In some parts of the book I found myself skipping sentences and going straight for the dialogue (I know bad me!)

Jacob, of course follows a demon named Jacob! Clever title! It is also book number one in the The Nightwalkers Series. As I was saying, Jacob is a demon otherwise known as the Enforcer, what does he enforce? He enforces the rules with no harming humans during the two periods of time when the moon is something, I can't explain it really but the something to do with the moon. In other words the moon makes the demons crazy and go looking for humans....for you know...sex.

By a string of events Jacob is trying to save a demon, who was summoned by a necromancer, where he literally catches Isabella falling from her apartment (though he was the one who made her fall out the window.). Jacob asks her if anything strange has been happening around the place and she is suddenly can't breathe because the stench is so bad, thus giving away that she can smell the necromancer and also shocking Jacob that she can sense them and he can not.

Through some more events, Isabella ends up killing the summoned demon because he cannot be saved and is out of control. Thus resulting and Jacob bringing Bella back to where he lives, their connection seems to already be strong and pulling them together, figuratively and literally.

I can't really add much without revealing more of the story line and most would be spoilers, but so far I'm liking the series, I'll read book #2 to see if I will continue.

A Hunger Like No Other by Kresley Cole

A Hunger Like No Other by Kresley Cole

4/5 stars.

The Cover: I would love this cover if only one thing was changed about it, the male hands are insanely huge, I know they are meant to be that way because he is a Lykae (like a wolf man) but still they disturb me greatly.

This is book number 2, though I didn't realize this until looking it up on goodreads.com. Though I believe you don't have to read the books in order to understand, because each book is about different characters, though just minor characters becoming main characters in the next book.

A Hunger Like No Other is definitely true to its title, I devoured this book.

The book is about Lachlain (honest to god I can't even pronounce that or even begin to comprehend how to say his name), who is the leader of Lykae clan, who forever has been looking for his one true mate...yet he is locked away in a hell hole to be burned to death and only to be revived by his immortality. A day comes to where Lachlain "scents" his mate and that drives him to the extreme of even removing one of his legs just to get to his fated one. Once out of his inferno (I want to say he has been down there for maybe 200-400 years,I'm not sure- let it be noted that he doesn't even know what a car is or phones.), Lachlain tracks down his mate and takes her hostage only to find out she is the very same creature that locked him away, a vampire.

"Each Lykae housed a wolflike "beast" inside, like a possession. This rendered them immortal and made them crave and appreciate the elementals: food, touch, sex. But, as she'd seen tonight and the night before, its also could make a Lykae unable to control its ferocity, a ferocity their kind willingly unleashed during sex, reveling in scratching, biting, and marking fresh in a frenzy."

"He was a beast in a form of a fantasy. His body, except for the incongruous leg injury, was nothing sort of...divine. His hair was thick and straight, a rich, dark brown that she imagined would look golden in the sun. She'd noted that sometimes today he'd had it trimmed, and his face was now cleanly shaved to reveal his perfect features. On the surface divine, beneath...a beast."

Emmaline is a half breed, vampire and Valkyrie. On her vampire side she is like no other, her Valkyrie coven raised her not to take blood from the source, unlike other vampires. She is first brought into the story where she is on a journey to discover more about her mother's and father's relationship; her mother(Valkyrie) is dead and her father (vampire) is unknown, thus she is searching for him. Though only on her trips does she run into trouble, her blood supply runs out and she is taken prisoner by Lachlain. She is forced to stay with Lachlain until she delivers him back to his homeland, though she doesn't know Lachlain has no plan of ever letting her leave.

"The hand that had been covering her mouth roughly grasped her chin. He narrowed his eyes, focusing on her lips--on her barely noticeable fangs. "No," he choked out. "No' possible..." He yanked her head side to side, running his face down her neck, smelling her, then growled in fury, "Goddamn you.""

On their week journey together, things begin to get sexual; on Lachlain part he believes Emmaline to be very sexually active to where she is actually a virgin and was never raised nor seen other vampires(In this book vampires are said to be very sexually active and have orgies(haha)). The more I think about their first sexual interactions, its more forced then out of love and passion.

'"So where would you get blood?"

"Blood bank," she murmured.

Was that a joke? "What the hell is that? Is there one nearby?"

She shook her head.

"Then you've got to take from me. Because I just signed on to be your breakfast.""

On another note, I love how Kresley wrote Lachlain's parts with his accent, tons of times I had to reread a sentence to get the word correct. Just a few more quotes, then hurry along and read this book.

"I doona understand. You are a vampire."

"You're my wee halfing." She punched his shoulder.

Heart of the Dragon by Gena Showalter (Book #69)

Heart of the Dragon by Gena Showalter.

5/5 stars.

I can't lie, I really really really enjoyed this book. It was perfected for the number of books I am on in my quest to read 100 books this year. A friend of mine told me number 69 should be a steamy book and thats exactly what Heart of a Dragon was.

I devoured this book; putting it down felt like a sin to me. I would have something to do but the need to read this book was soo strong.

In a way its different from all the paranormal erotic books I've read. The cover for this book is extremely sexy! Perfectly fits the image I made of the main male lead, though after seeing the cover its hard not to imagine him that way, maybe if you don't find him sexy, but I found the guy on the cover really sexy.

Summary from the back of the book:

"Searching for her missing brother, Grace Carlyle never dreamed she would discover a secret world populated by mythological monsters-or find herself facing a sword-wielding being whose looks put mortal men to shame.

But there he was, Darius en Kragin, one of a race of shape-shifting warriors bound to guard the gates of Atlantis, and kill all travelers who strayed within its borders.

Now Grace's life was in his hands, and Darius had to choose between his centuries-old vow and the woman who had slipped beneath his defenses and stolen the heart of Atlantis's fiercest dragons."

Heart of a Dragon was an awesome, steamy, and action packed book. Grace was a fierce and passionate main lead, to where Darius is a super dreamy/sexy/hot/drool-worthy emotion-less lead. Don't get me wrong Darius becomes plenty passionate when Grace literally falls into Atlantis.

I won't add anymore, because I'd literally type up the whole book for you. All the spoilers. All the sex scenes. You know all the awesome parts you want to happen, but you're just going to have to read for yourself to get to them.

Wings by Aprilynne Pike

Wings by Aprilynne Pike.

4/5 stars.

A story about faeries.

I finished reading "Wings" about 4 days ago; it was quite different from the faeries books I've read before. Apparently the faeries are based off of the season they are born in; meaning: Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter. This was the first time I read a book that categorized them like that, it also had some other surprising features that I haven't found in other faerie books, which is a good thing in my book.

Anyways, here is what the book is about.

The story revolves around a girl named Laurel, who apparently is the luckiest teenage girl ever. She is thin but not to thin, has silky hair(though she uses no shampoo/conditioner- a girl can dream!), perfect skin, and doesn't get her period. She is considered vegan in the book, but not because she wants to be, its because her body can't handle dairy and meat; in the beginning she is thought to be anorexic by another girl.

Laurel, was home schooled her entire life, until now. She starts high school, I believe she is in 10th grade. Like never been going to public school, Laurel has never been to a doctor, her mother believes them to be crazy.

At her first day of school, Laurel meets one of the main male leads, David, who Laurel describes of having an exotic look. "They were a bright blue that contrasted with the olive ton of his skin. The color looked out of place, but not in a bad way. Kind of exotic." David is human, just incase you were wondering, I thought he was a faerie in the beginning because no other faeries seemed yet to appear.

Then there is the other main male lead in Laurel's love life, Tanami, Tam for short. "Laurel looked up into deep-green eyes almost too vibrant to be real." "His face looked like a classic painting--cheekbones clearly defined under smooth, tanned skin that looked like it would fit better on an L.A. beach than in a chilly, moss-covered forest." If you haven't guessed it, Tam is the faerie. I won't say which faerie he is, I'll let you find that out yourself.

With two main lead male characters, there always leads to problems. David can't fit into the faerie world and Tam can't be with Laurel all the time like David can. And Laurel can't just choose one guy, she must have both. She kisses David and leads Tam on, you know your classic "I must have both guys kind of girl".

So I kind of strayed from what the book is about when I was describing the guys, but anways Laurel is a faerie. Yet she doesn't know it, like usual. The changes in Laurel begin when her first zit appears on her back, but this isn't your normal nasty zit, it continues to grow and grow until one day it "blooms". I'll leave it at that.

Besides Laurel maturing into a faerie, there is a evil figure in the book. Though I can't find a way to word it without revealing to much about Laurel and her enemies, so I'll leave it there also.

Read it. It seems like it will be a great faeries series. Unless, she prolongs her choice over the boys....which I hate.
