Enquiring Minds Wants to Know #5

Enquiring Minds is hosted by the sweet Dollycas's Thoughts.

This weeks questions are food related, which are always fun to talk about. Cause who doesn't love food, right?

1. How would you build the perfect sandwich?
2. What is your favorite flavor of potato chips?
3. Now add the perfect beverage to complete this lunch.

My answers:

1. I'm not really a sandwich person, I never was really one before I became a vegetarian either. There is basically only one sandwich I eat. A veggie blt. Fake bacon, lettuce, bread, mustard and sometimes tomatoes. I'm not big on tomatoes. Sometimes I'll toast the bread and the "bacon" has to be crunchy!

2. Favorite potato chip would have to be Lays BBQ chips. Definitely has to be by frito lays because my oldest brothers works there and he'd be offended, haha. Always telling us to buy the chips, but I'm not a big fan of chips either but when I do eat them I usually go for the BBQ flavored chips.

3. I only drink one thing. Water. If I was drinking soda still I would have put coke, but I gave that up last year. So water is the perfect drink for all meals, though I secretly still crave soda, I just have super willpower not to drink it. ;)

Enquiring Minds Wants to Know #4

I'm a little behind in blogging, so I'm trying to catch up real fast! Can't be behind before the new year begins!

Enquiring Minds Wants to Know is hosted by the wonderful Dollycas's Thoughts!

This weeks questions are:

1. Did you get what you wanted for Christmas?
2. Do you make New Year's Resolutions?
3. How will you spend New Year's Eve and New Year's Day this year?

My answers:

1. I got everything I could ever ask for, which I got months ago. My computer. I got new running shoes to start getting my butt in shape and run 5ks! I also,  got a brownie pan which I can't wait to try out!

2. Yes, I always make resolutions for the new year, but do I ever do them? Sometimes, yes. Most times, no. For 2010 I made a goal to go 90 days without soda, which I did. I'm still doing it, I'm on day 270 (going for a year!!!). Also had a goal to read 100 books, which I also accomplished!!!

For 2011 I'd like to lose some weight, complete the walk to run program, read 120 books, etc etc ...

3. I'm not big on New Years so I usually stay home unless someone wants to do something. I'm not into lightning fireworks and my family doesn't do anything. Well this year my parents are making a lot of snacks, which I can't eat because they involve meat.

Enquiring Minds Wants to Know #3

Enquiring Minds is hosted by Dollycas's Thoughts.

This week there is only one question, since everyone is so busy with the holidays. I'm semi busy, my online game is having a great event and is a great time to level up, did that sound totally nerdy? Hehe. Also, I need to paint my nails and fix my eyebrows for church tomorrow with the family, so I can look good; get all beautified.  Along with baking peanut butter cookies, rice krispies treats, and oreo truffles for Christmas!

The question is: Share with us a favorite childhood holiday moment?

My Answer: The best Christmas for me had to be when I finally got an indoor cat. Don't get me wrong, I've had past cats but my dad is a clean freak and hates pet hair that I was only allowed outside cats, which wasn't so bad because all my cats were mostly caught by me and tamed; so it worked out. Though I always wanted a cat to live inside and since the others were so used to living outside they preferred it than being inside. Yet, I worked and worked on my dad to allow me to have a indoor cat and I got one in 2004.

My mom and I went to a local animal shelter, and I found her almost instantly. In the spirit of Christmas I named her Belle. At the shelter she was so calm and loved sitting on my lap, which I absolutely loved because thats what I wanted, a lap cat. Thats not what I got, I got a tornado of a cat. She was always hyper and wanting to be with people, but never was she a lap cat. She tricked me into adopting her but I don't regret it one bit.

That had to be my best Christmas ever. Though sadly Belle died 6 months after I adopted her, she had feline leukemia, we were told the day after they were processing her for adoption, I never did have to think about not adopting her, I knew I would adopt her no matter what she had. She was the one, the ultimate Christmas gift. Belle gave me amazing memories and helped me through a lot during those 6 months.

Some memories with Belle:

  • She liked to take baths, like she hated to be separated from me and she would try to open the door all the time so I just let her in the bathroom with me and she'd hop into the tub with me. My parents thought she was the craziest cat ever for that!
  • Belle hated to be held and would never sit on my lap but when I was sleeping she would sleep on my head.
  • When someone would go to the bathroom, she would stick her paws under the door; thats one of my dad's fondest memories with her.
  • Belle was fast, like super fast, we had to watch out for her when we opened any door because she'd zoom past you trying to go with you!

Enquiring Minds Wants to Know #2

It's Thursday again and that means its time for Enquiring Minds Want to Know hosted by Dollycas's Thoughts.

This Thursday questions are:

1. What is the present you want Santa to bring you the most?

2. Do you have a big meal on Christmas or just snack all day?

3. Do you read Christmas books this time of year, is there a special one you reread year after year?

My Answers:

1. Sometime in the middle of the year I had to give back the computer I was borrowing from my oldest brother, so lets just say I've been using my Christmas gift for quite some time already and absolutely loving it!!! Way better than the one I had before. Other than my computer I can't really say there is anything else I hope Santa brings me, unless its Last Sacrifice by Richelle Mead!!! Now I'd love Santa if he brought me that, of course he could also make Dmitri a real man and just gift wrap him, whatever works for Santa, you know?

2. My family usually all goes to Christmas Eve Mass and then we all head to Chili's for dinner. On Christmas though, my Mom usually makes a big breakfast: eggs, bacon(veggie bacon in my case), rolls, strawberries, etc. As well as a ton of baking gets done on Christmas Eve, so there is plenty of snacking going on during the day.

3. Nope, can't say I do read Christmas books nor do I own any. Unless I have some in my box where all my childhood books are, but nope there isn't a Christmas themed book I read every year.

Enquiring Minds Wants to Know #1

Enquiring Minds Wants to Know is a meme hosted by Dollycas's Thoughts every Thursday to Monday.

Each week she posts 3 questions for all of us to get know each other better with.

This weeks questions are Christmas related, which I absolutely love Christmas, so simple enough.

The Questions are:

1. Do you have an artificial or real Christmas tree?

2. Do you feel you decorate enough, over the top, or not enough?

3. Do you have a favorite Christmas cookie, if you have a recipe, please share?

My Answers:

1. My family always gets a real Christmas tree. We've never had a fake Christmas tree, I think my parents perfer real tree because of the way they smell. Honestly I don't really smell the Christmas tree, but it makes my mom happy.

2. My mom does all the decorating, she even starts in November! Well only if we are hosting Thanksgiving at our house that year, which this year we did. So of course she had to decorate. She only decorates inside the house, we never were a family who put lights on the house or on anything on the trees out front. Just inside decorations only. Its not really over the top either. Its just on the balcony and above the fireplace.

3. Oreo truffles. I wait all year to make these babies. I found the recipe about 3 years ago and have made them since every Christmas. I usually bake a lot on Christmas Eve, from : Chocolate chip cookies, rice krispie treats, brownies, oreo truffles, and whatever other recipe I found I wanted to try that year. But always oreo truffles now.

Here is the recipe: (Just basically 4 ingredients!! Or even 3 at the most!)

  • 1 pkg of Philadelphia Cream Cheese (8 oz), softened
  • 1 pkg of Oreos, finely crushed (I crush mine in a zip lock bag, I think even one year I used my food processor)
  • 2 pkg of Baker's Semi-Sweet Chocolate, melt (I hate this part. I don't own a double boiler and doing it just right in the microwave isn't easy!) (You can use whatever melting chocolate you want, I also get white chocolate for extra decoration)
Instructions:

  • After crushing the oreos - mix in cream cheese until well blended
  • Shape into bite size balls or whatever size you find appropriate, well not giant ones but whatever!
  • Dip in melted chocolate and coat all over - then place on paper for chocolate to harden (afterwards do white chocolate drizzle if you want!)
Refrigerate for 1 hour or until firm (I personally freeze mine in a zip lock bag)
