Enquiring Minds Wants to Know #4

I'm a little behind in blogging, so I'm trying to catch up real fast! Can't be behind before the new year begins!

Enquiring Minds Wants to Know is hosted by the wonderful Dollycas's Thoughts!

This weeks questions are:

1. Did you get what you wanted for Christmas?
2. Do you make New Year's Resolutions?
3. How will you spend New Year's Eve and New Year's Day this year?

My answers:

1. I got everything I could ever ask for, which I got months ago. My computer. I got new running shoes to start getting my butt in shape and run 5ks! I also,  got a brownie pan which I can't wait to try out!

2. Yes, I always make resolutions for the new year, but do I ever do them? Sometimes, yes. Most times, no. For 2010 I made a goal to go 90 days without soda, which I did. I'm still doing it, I'm on day 270 (going for a year!!!). Also had a goal to read 100 books, which I also accomplished!!!

For 2011 I'd like to lose some weight, complete the walk to run program, read 120 books, etc etc ...

3. I'm not big on New Years so I usually stay home unless someone wants to do something. I'm not into lightning fireworks and my family doesn't do anything. Well this year my parents are making a lot of snacks, which I can't eat because they involve meat.

In My Mailbox(#2)

In My Mailbox is hosted by The Story Siren.

Here's what I got!

Crescendo by Becca Fitzpatrick - I can vaguely remember what the first one was about, so hopefully I don't have to go back and reread it, just to follow it. At least I can remember its about fallen angels ;)
Dark Embrace by Brenda Joyce - I was looking for a new author to pick up and I found hers right around the other books I picked up, so I'll be giving Brenda a try!
First Drop of Crimson by Jeaniene Frost - Of course I had to pick up this series! My library had the first one in the series, but oddly I didn't to read about that vampire. I wanted to read about Spade more.

Midnight Sins by Cynthia Eden - Very excited to read this one after this first book was so amazing! And doesn't the guy on the cover just look hot!!!
Playing With Fire by Gena Showalter - This seems to be very interesting, something right up my alley, I could use a change from all the vampires/were-wolves.

I Won a Book!

I won a book off of goodreads! I never thought I would win something but I entered to win a lot of books on the site lately, and right before I was going to bed last night an email popped up and said I won!

I'm so excited! This is the first book I won and can't wait for it to get here.

I won:

Loser/Queen by Jodi Lynn Anderson.

Isn't the cover just adorable?!

Summary from goodreads:

"Cammy Hall is what anyone would describe as a loser. She lives with her grandparents and has adopted their way of life… right down to the comfortable shoes and early bedtime. And can she help it that she actually likes to knit?

At school, her skills with knitting needles and some yarn go completely unappreciated: people like Bekka Bell reign while Cammy and her best friend, the fearless Danish exchange student Gerdi, watch from the sidelines. Cammy’s used to being an outsider; after years of humiliating moments, her goal is simply to fly under the radar. Then she suddenly starts receiving mysterious text messages that lead her right to all the embarrassing secrets about the most popular kids in school. Cammy never expected to be able to climb up the high school food chain, and the agenda of the texter may be questionable—but how can she possibly give up the chance to be Queen?"

Sounds just like a book I would read!

Just so excited!

Review: Something Like Fate by Susane Colasanti

Something Like Fate by Susane Colasanti

3/5 stars.

I started reading this book hoping it wouldn't be like the previous book I read by Susane Colasanti. Luckily, it was better, though there were was one thing I saw in common, she rarely uses the main characters name. I had to look on the back of the book for the characters name once again.

(No matter what I type, I just hate it -.- getting a headache from trying to type something up I half like...)

*****************

Lani and Erin are best friends, bonded together by a car accident when they were younger. Erin saved Lani's life, leaving her to believe she owes Erin her life.

Lani is so obsessed with fate that she reads her horoscope every Monday and has each month assigned to learning about new things dealing with the future. She is scared of the Unknown, as she calls it. She must have at least a little insight for the future.

Lani has yet to find her "soul mate", the one person she feels an actual connection too. Though that soon changes when Erin starts dating Jason. Jason and Lani have lunch together and Erin encourages Lani to sit with him and become better friends with him, along with talking about her and seeing what he says/feels about her. Yet thats not where their conversations lead to; they develop their own code language and find out they have more in common than they ever thought. Being the good friend Lani is, she tries to go against fate, but no matter how much she tries to avoid it, she is drawn back to Jason.

************************

I don't know why I didn't rate this book higher than a three. I thought the book was very cute, even if she is lusting after her best friend's boyfriend. Some parts felt entirely rushed, just how at the end everything magically ends up better.

I'm getting tired of female leads thinking they are ugly and not good enough for boys and then landing the total hottie in school. Where are the confident female leads? Or damn give me a heroine who is just straight out depressed, don't give me an in-between character.

The cover, I love it! The boy reminds of the guy from ABC Family "Ten Things I Hate About You." That I'm even convinced its him. It could be him! It just could be!

Top Ten Tuesday: My Top Ten Books of 2010 (#2)

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. Every Tuesday she asks you what your top ten are, for whatever the question is. This week its: What are you top ten books from 2010?

I went onto my goodreads account and went through my read list and wrote down every book that I absolutely loved, and came down to 11. So I'm just going to do 11 this time, because they are all so awesome. In no certain order, I think. ^^

1. The Lost Hero by Rick Riordan - Even though I read and completed the entire Percy Jackson series this year, (which has to be one of my favorite YA series) I am so happy Rick wrote this series. I can't wait to see what adventure he takes us on this time.

2-4. At Graves End. One Foot in the Grave. Halfway to the Grave by Jeanine Frost - I am so glad I found this series. I look forward to each book she releases. My emotions follow Cat's throughout the entire book, when Bone pisses her off, I'm angry. When Bone makes her swoon, I swoon. I find these books filled with humor, heat, and tons of ass kicking; which is my idea of a perfect book.

5-6. Spirit Bound & Blood Promise by Richelle Mead - This series beats Twilight for me. Now if only they could make a movie out of the books. I'm sure there are enough crazed fans out there! Lets rally the troops and pick our sexy, buff Dmitri!! I don't want one book turned into a movie, I want a movie for each book!

7. A Hunger Like No Other by Kresley Cole - Whew. When I remember this book I just remember how hot and sexy it was, which is def. that should be expected from Kresley Cole's books! A half vampire and werewolf falling in love, the ultimate clash of species, but clashing can be a good thing! Man I want to re-read this book now...runs off...wait must finish!

8. Hotter After Midnight by Cynthia Eden - *fans self* This book was hotter after any time, I remember sitting in the car and rereading it while whoever I was running errands with drove to the library, and I just sat there blushing! I can only hope the other books in this series are just as hot as this one. This has to be my pick for hottest book this year.

9. Perfect Chemistry by Simone Elkeles - Best one out of the entire series, I loved watching the two main character go at each other (not literally...or...). I love these kind of story lines, bad boy falls for good girl. One of the best YA books I read this year and really enjoyed, one I see myself rereading over and over again.

10. Angels' Blood by Nalini Singh - One of my favorite angel series. I loved this one more than the second one because I'm a sucker for the relationship beginning parts of books. Plus it was filled with a lot of steamy scenes than the second book.

11. The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins - One of the best books I've ever read period. Suspense at the end of the page, danger lingering in every chapter, deception in every sentence. A must read for everyone out there, I say. I'm pretty sure I heard the book is becoming a movie so I can't wait to see what they do with it. Hopefully not ruin our amazing series, better not leave out all the deaths and gore!

Those are my top 11~ Going to check out what others picked for this year.

Teaser Tuesday: Something Like Fate by Susane Colasanti (#3)

Teaser Tuesday is hosted by Should be Reading.

I didn't even get to finish the book I shared a teaser with last Tuesday. I'm way behind in reading. I finally got to the level I wanted after like a billion years playing it...but yeah...anyways.

Follow Friday #3

Follow Friday! I missed the last one last week, I can't remember what I was doing that day but oh wells! Follow Friday is an awesome meme hosted by Parajunkee.

The question this week is:

What are your plans for this fabulous holiday?

I'm not super busy but I'm not super free either this holiday. Today I did all my baking: peanut butter cookies, rice krispies treats, and oreo truffles. I also did my nails and plucked my eyebrows (which turned out horribly and practically all gone, do not give me teasers(right word?)!!) for church today with my family.I haven't picked out my out yet either but hopefully it will be cute. Then after Christmas Eve Mass we are going out to eat at our usual spot for this day, Chilis!

For Christmas I'll be opening presents first thing in the morning and then having a big breakfast with my family: eggs, croissants, bacon(fake bacon for me), strawberries and whipped cream. Then basically for the rest of the day we all go do our own thing, basically we all will be eating all the goodies from our stocking and on the front room table, I should take a picture once all the candy/desserts are on there! Its insane! Already peanut butter cookies, rice krispies, m&ms, Hershey kisses, and reeses cups on the table! My dad still needs make his "homemade" chocolate chip cookies (cough cough - he buys the ones you just have to stick in the oven, but apparently he does it just right!) and then I have to finish making the oreo truffles, which will take maybe an hour to do after church dinner tonight!

But thats my Christmas Eve and Christmas plans! Now off to find some new, awesome blogs to follow!

Enquiring Minds Wants to Know #3

Enquiring Minds is hosted by Dollycas's Thoughts.

This week there is only one question, since everyone is so busy with the holidays. I'm semi busy, my online game is having a great event and is a great time to level up, did that sound totally nerdy? Hehe. Also, I need to paint my nails and fix my eyebrows for church tomorrow with the family, so I can look good; get all beautified.  Along with baking peanut butter cookies, rice krispies treats, and oreo truffles for Christmas!

The question is: Share with us a favorite childhood holiday moment?

My Answer: The best Christmas for me had to be when I finally got an indoor cat. Don't get me wrong, I've had past cats but my dad is a clean freak and hates pet hair that I was only allowed outside cats, which wasn't so bad because all my cats were mostly caught by me and tamed; so it worked out. Though I always wanted a cat to live inside and since the others were so used to living outside they preferred it than being inside. Yet, I worked and worked on my dad to allow me to have a indoor cat and I got one in 2004.

My mom and I went to a local animal shelter, and I found her almost instantly. In the spirit of Christmas I named her Belle. At the shelter she was so calm and loved sitting on my lap, which I absolutely loved because thats what I wanted, a lap cat. Thats not what I got, I got a tornado of a cat. She was always hyper and wanting to be with people, but never was she a lap cat. She tricked me into adopting her but I don't regret it one bit.

That had to be my best Christmas ever. Though sadly Belle died 6 months after I adopted her, she had feline leukemia, we were told the day after they were processing her for adoption, I never did have to think about not adopting her, I knew I would adopt her no matter what she had. She was the one, the ultimate Christmas gift. Belle gave me amazing memories and helped me through a lot during those 6 months.

Some memories with Belle:

  • She liked to take baths, like she hated to be separated from me and she would try to open the door all the time so I just let her in the bathroom with me and she'd hop into the tub with me. My parents thought she was the craziest cat ever for that!
  • Belle hated to be held and would never sit on my lap but when I was sleeping she would sleep on my head.
  • When someone would go to the bathroom, she would stick her paws under the door; thats one of my dad's fondest memories with her.
  • Belle was fast, like super fast, we had to watch out for her when we opened any door because she'd zoom past you trying to go with you!

Teaser Tuesday: The Devil You Know by Jenna Black (#2)

Another Teaser Tuesday hosted by Should Be Reading.

I'm a day late on this because I didn't want to take a teaser from the book I was reading currently, so I decided to wait til I finished that book and started a new one.

The rules of the tease:

  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share 2 teaser sentences from somewhere on that page
  • Do NOT include spoilers
  • Share the title and author

So this weeks teaser is from The Devil You Know by Jenna Black:

"I hated having him look at me like that. I hated the hurt that pounded in my chest, and the tears that stung my eyes." (pg 204)

Review: Waiting For You by Susane Colasanti

Waiting For You by Susane Colasanti

2 stars.

I was supposed to read Torment by Lauren Kate but I ran out of time and decided it wasn't worth paying a late fee over, so I returned it. I have well over 10 books checked out and this is one of the latest I checked out. Its due date is farther off than all the other books but I decided to read it anyways.

To be honest, I only gave the book 2 stars because it was so easy to read, but other than that I didn't find myself really enjoying the book.

**********

Marisa's sophomore year has finally come, unlike last year where she was a total mess, she and her best friend, Sterling, decide to reinvent themselves this year. That can only mean one thing, getting a boyfriend. Marisa has her eyes set on the popular, so taken, Derek. He is definitely "boyfriend material" unlike her class partner, Nash, who is nerdy and doesn't seem to dress in this century.

Marisa goes through some string of events that land herself a boyfriend but also puts her back where she was last year, depressed.

************

I don't know what I was expecting from this book but I didn't get what I wanted. A lot of times I couldn't even remember her name because very few times was her named used in the book. Also, her obsessive "love" for Derek was totally stalkerish, it would have been okay if he actually wasn't dating someone or even like talked to her before they have art together. And then when Derek is suddenly single, she is going insane waiting for him to ask her out, which is also creepy, because hello he is just recently single, he isn't going to ask you out the next second like she expects him to do.

Also, Marisa has an anxiety disorder and goes deep into depression at some point. Or at least thats what the book says, I didn't really get that feel that she was "so" depressed. Yes near the end she won't get out of bed and is laying there saying she is back in a downward spiral but then the next second she is like no I can do this! So she jumps out of bed and does a whole 180. So clearly, Marisa is "severely depressed".

I don't think I could write a big summary of the book because I disliked it so much that every time I type something I delete it, so I'll just leave it with what I typed.

I have Something Like Fate checked out, which is also by Susane Colasanti, so hopefully the book is better than this one.

Review: Sin Undone by Larissa Ione

Sin Undone by Larissa Ione (Demonica #5)

4/5 Stars.

Turn on the fan because this book is soo HOT! Just looking at the cool, black and white cover tells you, you're in for a sizzling adventure!

Larissa Ione, Demonica series, follows a different set of main character each time. This time around in, Sin Undone, we have Lore's twin sister, Sinead aka Sin, the only female Seminus demon born. Along with Conall, a dhampire(half were-wolf / half vampire), who works at the Underworld General.

Sin and Con paths had already crossed before in Ecstasy Unveiled; a heated encounter in a hospital storage closet, which turned out to be a bet made between Con and another employee, Luc (turned warg). Right after their little sha-bang, Sin found out and walked away with Con's winning and thinking he was a bastard. Though the feeling would soon be mutual because Sin unleashed a deadly disease that was killing wargs (were-wolves) everywhere.

Sin is now the leader of the assassin den she used to work for; overwhelmed by the fact the only safe place for her is in den or Underworld General. Yet Sin would rather stay holed up in her den then go to side of her brothers, who she wants nothing to do with even if they insist she is family. She receives a call from Eidolon to come in and run more tests, only to be sitting in his office with Con in the seat next to her. Eidolon throws one hell of request at them, "I need Con to feed from you," he said with uncharacteristic awkwardness. "And I need it to happen now." Con refuses with the fear of feeding from Sin will lead him to addiction to her blood and the unbearable thought of not being able to stop and end up draining her. Eidolon reasoning for this is because Con test for SF have finally come back positive yet its not attacking him like it attacks wargs; so with the hope of Con feeding from Sin, she could use her powers and watch what is happening inside him and learn how to cure it.

Con is summoned to a secret warg council to discuss Sin Fever; the developments of the disease, a cure, and revenge upon Sin. He eventually tells them that SF is only affecting turned wargs and all chaos breaks out during the meeting; stones being thrown "I wouldn't put it past the pricolici (born wargs) to have started this plague in the first place as a way to get rid of us (turned wargs)." Con is ordered to bring her to them or they will take matters into their own hands; problem is Con owes Sin's brothers a great deal. Also, there is the problem that Con has been ordered to return home to Scotland for the breeding season and finally take his part in the dhampire world.

Flash to the hospital, Sin is there working with her brother still trying to figure out how to cure SF. Sin tries to destroy the disease in a dying warg and is unsuccessful, leading her to shut down and everyone out. Eidolon is called away and runs into a pair of Carceris (underworld jailers) telling them they are here for Sin. Con is in within range and figures someone on the Warg Council has changed their mind and they want Sin to receive punishment now. Sin refuses to go with them, while Con hatches a plan to get Sin out of there safely. They make it out of the hospital and go on the run.

Con is Sin's only hope to get out of this.

------------------------------------------------------------

Before I began reading Sin Undone, I had to decide between it and Torment by Lauren Kate. My thought process was do I want to read a book I know will be amazing and sexy or a book that would torment my brain just like Fallen did? I've to say it was a very tough decision, NOT! Though I really do hope Torment doesn't literally "torment" my brain while reading it. Anyways....

I loved Sin Undone! I enjoyed reading about Con and Sin ripping each others clothes off to the parts where they just wanted to kill the other.Their relationship was sometimes annoying when they both refused to realize their own feelings or their absolute need (the sex and blood part) for each other. I did hate how Con tore down all her walls like she was a game to him and then would think about leaving her or that it would all be over soon anyways.

I did love the way Larissa included Luc and Kar story line; it makes me wonder are they next book (even if they aren't related to the family in anyway) or if the series is over. I'm not sure if I could say the series is wrapped up or not. I've only read book Ecstasy Unveiled and Sin Undone, though it doesn't matter what order you read them in but I guess it does spoil some things with the others relationships, but still I could follow along. I'll eventually read 1-3.

Found it really funny when I read the first couple lines in chapter five.""Let the bodies hit the floor." "Bodies," by Drowning Pool, blared from Sin's iPod Shuffle, and she sang at the top of her lungs as she walked with Wraith to the ER." Only because someone sent me a video of a parrot singing the song and I still can't get over how insanely funny/awesome it is! That the song is now stuck in my head.

Anyone know if the series is done? Also what did you think of this steaming, hot book?

Enquiring Minds Wants to Know #2

It's Thursday again and that means its time for Enquiring Minds Want to Know hosted by Dollycas's Thoughts.

This Thursday questions are:

1. What is the present you want Santa to bring you the most?

2. Do you have a big meal on Christmas or just snack all day?

3. Do you read Christmas books this time of year, is there a special one you reread year after year?

My Answers:

1. Sometime in the middle of the year I had to give back the computer I was borrowing from my oldest brother, so lets just say I've been using my Christmas gift for quite some time already and absolutely loving it!!! Way better than the one I had before. Other than my computer I can't really say there is anything else I hope Santa brings me, unless its Last Sacrifice by Richelle Mead!!! Now I'd love Santa if he brought me that, of course he could also make Dmitri a real man and just gift wrap him, whatever works for Santa, you know?

2. My family usually all goes to Christmas Eve Mass and then we all head to Chili's for dinner. On Christmas though, my Mom usually makes a big breakfast: eggs, bacon(veggie bacon in my case), rolls, strawberries, etc. As well as a ton of baking gets done on Christmas Eve, so there is plenty of snacking going on during the day.

3. Nope, can't say I do read Christmas books nor do I own any. Unless I have some in my box where all my childhood books are, but nope there isn't a Christmas themed book I read every year.

Review: The Lost Hero by Rick Riordan

The Lost Hero by Rick Riordan

4/5 Stars.

After finishing Rick Riordan's Percy Jackson series this year, I was very sad with it coming to an end. But never fear, Rick did not disappoint me! At the end of the last Percy Jackson book, The Last Olympian, the oracle told another prophecy:

"Seven half-bloods shall answer the call.
To storm or fire, the world must fall.
An oath to keep within final breath.
And foes bear arms to the Doors of Death."

So Camp Half-Blood story will continue, though Percy Jackson, Annabeth, Grover won't be the main characters; along with others from the  previous books, they will at least appear in this series at some point.

The Lost Hero begins in a desert, on a bus, with Jason waking up and not knowing who he is or why he is holding this girl's hand. After much complaining to his "girlfriend", Piper, and best friend, Leo, they finally believe he isn't faking it. Piper and Leo begin to tell him about his life at the Wilderness School, for troubled kids. Yet after telling him everything, Jason still feels like none of its real and why he has this really bad feeling. The bus comes to a stop at the Grand Canyon and they exit the bus to do the work for their field trip.

While working on their reports, the sky above them begins to change while everywhere else is still bright. Jason approaches the teacher on the trip with them, Coach Hedge. Coach Hedge literally jumps into questioning Jason,  asking him if he is cause for the storm clouds above them and why he is messing up his job. Jason retorts with his own questions, asking if Hedge knows him or not. Hedge begins asking him if he is the third package he is supposed to look after or not and begins sprouting weird things like "half-blood", "camp", "monsters". Then the bridge is suddenly attacked by storm spirits and all chaos breaks loose. Leo is thrown off the Grand Canyon, Hedge jumps after Leo, Piper is knocked against a wall, and Jason is left fighting monsters he didn't know he could fight.

Help eventually arrives in the form of a chariot with Annabeth at the reins. She lands and begins questioning the trio, asking them where their protector is. They tell em what happened and the other camper with Annabeth points out that Jason is only wearing one shoe and is the guy they are looking for. They take off in the chariot and begin their race back to camp with the storm spirits fighting them the whole way back.

After "arriving" at camp they are immediately surrounded by other campers; getting looked at and poked at while one camper says "These are the ones? Way older than thirteen. Why haven't they been claimed already?" The three begin asking what "claiming" is and shortly afterward get their answer when Leo begins to shine bright red with a symbol above his head. Leo is taken away with his rightful cabin, while Piper goes on a tour with Annabeth and Jason is lead away with the counselor of Aphrodite, Drew, to see Chiron.

Shortly after a few events at camp, does Jason, Leo and Piper begin their quest.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Lost Hero was everything I expected from Rick Riordan. I found myself immediately drawn into the world of demi-gods again and begging for the next book in the series already. Rick's book have to be the one series I don't demand romance out of; usually every book I read is centered around the romance of characters and then the conflict being the second part of the book.

The book is told by a different hero every 2 chapters, starting with Jason, then Piper and lastly Leo. Unlike in the Percy Jackson series where Percy was my favorite character, I equally enjoy all three of the new demi-gods. I loved the humor of Leo, the witty Piper, and strong Jason. Though I think these character this time around are far different from Grover, Percy and Annabeth. Jason, Piper, and Leo are very much sad characters, from the way they retell their past history with their families. I think Rick tried to give these characters much more complicated backgrounds, def. nothing compared to Percy's step-dad being a complete drunken fool.

There was just one thing, or rather one person I hated throughout the book. "She" is what I'll call her to not reveal to much about their quest and everything. I didn't really enjoy the way she pulled the heroes together or how differently she got them into this mess. With Jason it was blackmail, with Leo it was messing up his childhood, and with Piper is more along the lines of threatening her. I don't really like the Gods in the books, when they choose or choose not to help their children...yes yes don't mess with their fates and all that hooey stuff but still! I guess I want the Gods to be better parents, which I guess is asking for a lot!

I think Rick's book are enjoyable for people of all ages and genders.I don't find it leaning toward one specific gender or age group, well that is just my own opinion even if its considered YA. His books also make me wish they did the first Percy Jackson movie completely like the book instead of end it to where they can't make the next one in the series. Well I guess they could but then they definitely left out the big bad evil in the first movie and completely changed everything that happened in the book. Don't get me wrong I really enjoyed the movie but the books are always 99% better than the movies, unless in some times you see the movie first and read the book second and can't stop picturing the movie characters as the people in the book when they don't match up.

The Lost Hero is definitely a must read and a must have for me, can't wait to add it to my collection and get my hands on the next book in the series. While speaking of Rick Riordan's books, has anyone read "The Red Pyramid"?

Teaser Tuesday! Teaser Tuesday! So many fun meme's out there, that I just want to do them all! This one is hosted by Should Be Reading. Everyone can play, all you have to do is:
  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share 2 teaser sentences from somewhere on that page.
  • Do NOT include spoilers
  • Share the title and author
My teaser comes from Rick Riordan's new Half Blood series, The Lost Hero

"Two seconds to at least summon his blade. Then he'd be facing a god, two of his children, and an army of freeze-dried warriors." (pg 217)

Top Ten Tuesday (#1)

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, they release  a question of the top then things you're looking forward too. This Tuesday's is Top Ten Most Anticipated Books in 2011, so many pop into my head when I think of all the books released next year!

Really in no certain order, except my number 1 and 2 are in order. Just 3-10 could randomly be moved around.

1. This Side of the Grave by Jeaniene Frost - I absolutely love this series. Cat and Bones have to be the funniest, sexiest couple out there. Have to say I'd kill to get my hands on this book!

2. Archangel's Consort by Nalini Singh - This is one steaming series I die waiting for, after reading the first book I actually went out and bought the second one because I refused to wait in line at the library, which says a lot because I rarely buy books unless they totally blow me away! My face is probably a little red right now just thinking of the first book and how Elena & Raphael "tango".

3. The Iron Queen by Julie Kawaga  - I can't wait to see the continuation of Meghan Chase's story after being exiled from Nevernever . Also to see her relationship Ash blossom some more.

4. Afterlife by Claudia Gray - I'm not sure why I'm looking forward to this book, the way the last one end I was completely shocked by how it turned out. Also a little disappointed, but I'll stick with it.

5. City of Fallen Angels by Cassandra Clare - I thought the series was over but I guess a continuation is okay, though I hope its not bad. Though the cover is very nice, got me thinking are the cities on the cover cities in America? If so, which ones?

6. Forever by Maggie Stiefvater - I'm excited for this book and can't wait to see what happens between Grace and Sam. What will become of them? Will they choose to be humans or wolves? What would you choose?

7. Where She Went  by Gayle Forman - I can't remember how the book ended but I can remember what it was about. The cover is absolutely stunning, so that makes me want to read it even more. Now isn't that cover just beautiful?

8. Entice by Carrie Jones - Another beautiful cover. Another great story about faeries.

9. Chain Reaction by Simone Elkeles - I enjoyed the first two installations of the Perfect Chemistry series, I know they have a sorta semiliar feel but I still enjoy the chemistry between the characters. Plus, I love me some bad boys falling for some good girls, but I believe this book is semi the other way around. Plus the cover looks sizzling!!!

10. XVI - Julia Karr - I found out about this book on another person's top ten list, it literally interests me, the cover is haunting and darking, yet beautiful still. I don't think I've read a book that is anyway similar to this one, so I can't wait to get it.

Now bring on 2011! I can't wait to get my hand on these books. I'm sure there are other books I want but I can't remember them all.

In My Mailbox(#1)

This is my first In My Mailbox, though I can't really consider it my mailbox, but I guess in my library box. In My Mailbox is hosted by the ever popular, The Story Siren. Its a fun way of seeing what everyone got this week; not sure if I'll post it every Monday because I do visit the library on random days or sometimes multiple times a week.

Anyways this week I brought home a load of books!! I always feel slightly embarrassed when I'm carrying the manila folders they put requested books in, I rarely do ever see someone else carrying as many books as myself. I also, always wonder what the librarians think of me, I've never actually openly said hello or talked to them, though I swear one gives me an evil look or she just looks like she is giving me an evil look. This evil librarian today helped me check out a book that refused to scan and I said so nicely "Thank you! Have a nice day." and she just looked at me, so I just went on my way. Haha.

Hunting Ground by Patricia Briggs (Alpha & Omega #2) (Goodreads)
Kiss of a Demon King by Kreseley Cole (Immortals After Dark #7) (Goodreads)
A Certain Wolfish Charm by Lydia Dare (Westfield Brothers #1) (Goodreads)
The Devil You Know by Jenna Black (Morgan Kingsley #2) (Goodreads)
Unwind by Neil Shusterman (Unwind #1) (Goodreads)
The Ambassador's Mission by Trudi Canavan (Traitor Spy Trilogy, #1) (Goodreads)
Fade by Lisa McMann (Dream Catcher #2) (Goodreads)

Out of the 7 above books, I think I'm mostly looking forward to Kiss of a Demon King and The Ambassador's Mission. Most of the second books in those series, I read book #1 MONTHS ago. I'm trying to stick to my word and go to the next book in the series, instead of completely forgetting about them; well honestly I didn't forget them, they are just series that really didn't WOW me, but at-least I'm getting to them, right?

On a side not, when I arrived home from the library with my dad, we noticed a little brown dog in our yard. I jumped out of the car and called to her and was very glad she was wearing a collar. So I make the call, a lady answers and I tell her I have her dog. She was like "You have my dog?" I was like "Yes, I have your dog, I found her on my street." I then tell her where I live and what color the dog is, I knew exactly what breed the dog was because my brother and his wife own the same breed, but the name escaped me when I was trying to describe the dog. She goes "Oh that isn't my dog. Its my son's girlfriends dog blah blah blah." As my dad is on the phone talking to her, since I literally suck with directions, a truck pulls up and its the son for the dog. He says thanks and I return him to her; I do wish at that moment I would have said "You need to put your own number on your dogs tag, not on someone else's. Also consider making another tag where the phone number is visible on the front not on the back, scratched in." Oh well, at least I did my good deed for the year, though honestly I would always pick up and try to return animals to their owners, I feel the need to do that so if ever a chance one of my pets goes missing, someone returns the favor and reunites me with my little babies.

(Its official I can't find a picture that even resembles the dog I found, but later the breeds name came back to me, schnauzer.)

Follow Friday #2

It's Follow Friday again! My second one, just a little late in posting and haven't found any new blogs to look at and follow yet. I must get on that right away!!!

This week's question is:

Do you have an under-noticed author that you think we should all know about?

This is a toughie. I really can't think of any author that is under-noticed, usually I read the most talked about books; maybe I should change that? I'll be sure to look at people's answers and who they believe is not that popular and check 'em out.

Off to check out others blogs and see what they said!!!

Enquiring Minds Wants to Know #1

Enquiring Minds Wants to Know is a meme hosted by Dollycas's Thoughts every Thursday to Monday.

Each week she posts 3 questions for all of us to get know each other better with.

This weeks questions are Christmas related, which I absolutely love Christmas, so simple enough.

The Questions are:

1. Do you have an artificial or real Christmas tree?

2. Do you feel you decorate enough, over the top, or not enough?

3. Do you have a favorite Christmas cookie, if you have a recipe, please share?

My Answers:

1. My family always gets a real Christmas tree. We've never had a fake Christmas tree, I think my parents perfer real tree because of the way they smell. Honestly I don't really smell the Christmas tree, but it makes my mom happy.

2. My mom does all the decorating, she even starts in November! Well only if we are hosting Thanksgiving at our house that year, which this year we did. So of course she had to decorate. She only decorates inside the house, we never were a family who put lights on the house or on anything on the trees out front. Just inside decorations only. Its not really over the top either. Its just on the balcony and above the fireplace.

3. Oreo truffles. I wait all year to make these babies. I found the recipe about 3 years ago and have made them since every Christmas. I usually bake a lot on Christmas Eve, from : Chocolate chip cookies, rice krispie treats, brownies, oreo truffles, and whatever other recipe I found I wanted to try that year. But always oreo truffles now.

Here is the recipe: (Just basically 4 ingredients!! Or even 3 at the most!)

  • 1 pkg of Philadelphia Cream Cheese (8 oz), softened
  • 1 pkg of Oreos, finely crushed (I crush mine in a zip lock bag, I think even one year I used my food processor)
  • 2 pkg of Baker's Semi-Sweet Chocolate, melt (I hate this part. I don't own a double boiler and doing it just right in the microwave isn't easy!) (You can use whatever melting chocolate you want, I also get white chocolate for extra decoration)
Instructions:

  • After crushing the oreos - mix in cream cheese until well blended
  • Shape into bite size balls or whatever size you find appropriate, well not giant ones but whatever!
  • Dip in melted chocolate and coat all over - then place on paper for chocolate to harden (afterwards do white chocolate drizzle if you want!)
Refrigerate for 1 hour or until firm (I personally freeze mine in a zip lock bag)

100 Book List Finished

So I set myself a goal this year to read 100 books and I have finally completed it with plenty of time to spare. I'm actually very surprised I met this goal, to begin with I never had a passion for reading. I only really began reading after I finished reading the Twilight series. Also, I never even thought of book blogging until I was already started this goal, I just thought it would give me something else to do and could be soothing.

So next year 120 books or 150? I'm sure I could do 120 books but not 100% sure I could read 150 in 12 months, I guess just depends how dedicated to this I am.
