In My Mailbox(#6)

IMM is hosted by The Story Siren.

I'm always so tempted to look around my library now, even when I don't have much time or whenever someone else drove me to the library; which in this case...I left my dad in the car waiting for awhile. I just get so absorbed by the library that I can't escape. I feel like I never spend enough time looking. Still I can't get over my shyness/anxiety that people are looking at all the books I'm grabbing.

While absorbed in searching for more books at the library, I ended up grabbing a book that I didn't even remember I read. Well actually, first I grabbed the second book in the series and I opened to read the description and check if it listed other books in the series. Found out it was book number two, so I found book number one and I thought "Oh, this book is on my to reads list! Lucky!!" To bad it was really on my have read list! ^^

Here are the books I got this time:

Blue Fire by Janice Hardy
Secondhand Charm by Julie Berry
The Iron Queen by Julie Kagawa

Hawksmaid by Kathryn Lasky
The Unidentified by Rae Mariz
Vampire Rising by Jason Henderson

Need Help / Advice

I'm going a little mad right now. I'm trying to test out new templates but nothing is working. Its like it is refusing to do anything, even to accept my old one. I'm getting so frustrated. I try to hit the keep widgets, nothing happens. I try to hit save template, nothing happens. Just nothing happens. I don't know whats wrong, I even deleted all my sidebar things hoping if it had no stupid things it would save it and go on but no. It still won't go.

Anyone know what to do? Any advice?

I'm just going to keep trying until I get a least something to work.

Update:

Got my old one to work again, thankfully. All I want is a three column blog and to make extra pages on my blog, is that to much to ask for in a template??? Instead things have to mess up completely...sigh nothing is going right with this day at all.

100 Books In a Year Reading Challenge Update (#1)

I haven't done an update on all the books I've read so far this year, so its definitely time for this post. Though I still add to the books I've read to the original post, I will continue making update posts. I will do the same for the Vampire Challenge, the Shifter Challenge, and the Paranormal Romance Challenge; when I have finally read more books with those types of main characters.

Ah, I should add that my goal is 120 books, not 100 books, since that was my goal last year. Though I'm still participating in this challenge. And I do have to add I'm doing rather awful at it. My goal was to read 10 books a month, yet I didn't reach that goal in January and am no where near it for February either. I'll include the month next to book and number so you can see how bad I'm doing with my reading.

Anyways here is the updated list. If any of the books are in the above challenges I am taking part of, it will be in parenthesis in their assigned colors. Also if I'm wrong with my Paranormal Romance Challenge books and they are not in fact paranormal romance novels, could someone kindly tell me if they are not.

1. In My Skin - Kate Holden (January)
2. Firespell - Chloe Neill (January)
3. A Certain Wolfish Charm - Lydia Dare (Shifter Challenge) (January)
4. Fade - Lisa McMann (January)
5. Marked - P.C. Cast (Vampire Challenge) (January)
6. Some Girls Bite - Chloe Neill (Vampire Challenge) (January)
7. First Drop of Crimson - Jeaniene Frost (Paranormal Romance Challenge) (January)
8. I Am Number Four - Pittacus Lore (January)
9. Beastly - Alex Flinn (February)
10. Betrayed - P.C. Cast (Vampire Challenge) (February)
11. Playing with Fire - Gena Showalter (Paranormal Romance Challenge) (February)
12. Entice - Carrie Jones (February)
13. Nevermore - Kelly Creagh (February)
14. Gone - Lisa McMann (February)
15. Nightshade - Andrea Cremer (Shifter Challenge) (February)
16. Strange Bedpersons by Jennifer Cruise (March)
17. Manhunting by Jennifer Cruise (March)

Teaser Tuesday: Entice by Carrie Jones (#8)

Haven't been reading lately, like usual. I've been doing a few other things.

I planted onion bulbs the other week, as well as seeds. The onion bulbs have sprouted, I was really excited with that. (Usually when I grow things or attempt to...they either don't grow or die quickly...) My onion seeds sadly don't think they will make it. I had the first set in a starter kit inside the house, where my dog got to them and pulled them down from where they were sitting. So they were all over the floor when I found em, also I think I used the wrong kind of soil, so yeah. I did another starter kit, this time left em outside, but found them knocked over today, I have no luck. Either one of my cats got to most of them or a squirrel did. Though hopefully they will still grow, the ones that were still intact.

Anyways, Teaser Tuesday is hosted by MizB, from Should be Reading.

Teaser Tuesday: Size 12 Is Not Fat by Meg Cabot (#7)

It's been awhile since I last posted. I'm having a rough day/week/month. Today I got some shocking news about a friend and I just have been crying all day. She is in critical condition in the hospital and I hope to get some news in a day or two. So I'm trying to stay positive and not cry all day. So I thought I'd get my mind out of my current life, so what better way to do that than, is to blog or read.

Moving along, Teaser Tuesday is hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading.

My teaser is from Size 12 Is Not Fat by Meg Cabot.

"For me?" she ask, tears--I'm not kidding-- practically springing from her eyes."

"Well," I say. "Yes. I feel bad about all you've been going through--"

The tears dry up pretty quick after that.

"Oh, they're from you," she says, in a different voice.

"Um," I say. "Yeah."

Teaser Tuesday: Playing with Fire by Gena Showalter (#6)

Teaser Tuesday is hosted by Should Be Reading.

I'm getting back in the process of blogging and keeping up with the weekly meme's. Though having some trouble blogging about books I've read. I can't seem to either put my thoughts into words or come to like what I typed up, I'll try to keep up with blogging though!

Rules for sharing teasers:

  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share 2 teaser sentences from anywhere on that page
  • Do NOT include spoilers
  • Share the title and author of the book

My teaser this week is from Playing with Fire by Gena Showalter. Usually when I share a teaser I haven't even read any of the book, but with this book I'm almost finished. I'm just hoping I open up to a good page with quotes I loved! Anyways, here we go!

"Depends on what kind of torturing we're talking about."

"The bad kind."

In My Mailbox(#5)

In My Mailbox is hosted by The Story Siren.

Got another load of books from the library. Also I stopped by a local bookstore and used the rest of my credit and got some used books. I currently have 16 books checked out! And plenty that I own/borrowed to read! Eeek!

Recently when I go to the library, I have actually been looking around. Grabbing book after book. When I went awhile ago, I had so many that I could barely hold them all!!

Siren Song by Cat Adams
Spells by Aprilynne Pike
Touching Darkness by Jaime Rush

Thirst No. 3 by Christopher Pike
Heist Society by Ally Carter
Size 12 Is Not Fat by Meg Cabot

Pride by Rachel Vincent (Bought)
Perfect Blend by Sue Margolis
Prey by Rachel Vincent (Bought)

At Grave's End by Jeaniene Frost (Bought/Read)
Diet Drama by Nancy Redd
One Foot in the Grave by Jeaniene Frost (Bought/Read)

That is my lovely load for the week or two. I don't think I'll go wandering through the library any time soon, since I'm overloaded with books. Only ones I'll pick up is the ones I have on request.

Sadly when I was linking the book titles to their goodread pages I discovered Siren Song is book number TWO, in the series. I haven't read book number one yet, so that one will go unread. I hate when I can't tell what number a book is in a series or if the book doesn't say there is other books before it.

Just looked up Blood Song which is the first book before Siren Song. My library doesn't have it, nor does the other libraries linked to it. Though luckily, its on order; who knows how long that actually takes to come in. But seriously, again have book 2 but not one? *Sigh* If I was a librarian, I'd be checking to see if we have all the first books of series, not the second book.

Did some searching on my libraries website and found a Purchase Suggestion Link. I wonder if there is a limit for suggestions? Or would they think I'm mad for all the books I'd love to request them to get? We'll see. I'll send in a couple requests and pray they are answered! Requested Stray by Rachel Vincent so far, will look through my too-read list and see which book has been on there forever and suggest it to them.

Also, when I was at the book store, I had thought I had book 1 & 2 of the Night Huntress series, sadly I was wrong again. Which also brings me to the Shifter series, I thought I grabbed 2 & 3, I didn't...of course. I can never find book one, neither new or used. But there were three books there and I grabbed two of them like a crazed book fan(sadly only had enough for 4 books with my credit) does when books she has been looking forever, discovers them there. My library has Prey, Shift, and Alpha. All the later books in the series. Come on! How am I supposed to start the series if you don't even have book one?! They do have the books for ebooks, but I can't read books on a computer, I have to be able to hold the book and turn the page!!

Thats all for In My Mailbox :D

Review: Betrayed by P.C. Cast & Kristen Cast

Betrayed by P.C. Cast & Kristen Cast

4/5 Stars. Book #3 for Vampire Challenge 2011 hosted by Parajunkee's View.

Wow my head is still rolling after finishing the book. I want book three so I can just find out what happens. Going into this book I had an idea about who would betray Zoey but then there was a linger feeling if someone else might betray her....

*************************************************

It's been a month since Zoey Redbird has been at The House of Night; already she is in a class of her own. She is only third former to have a filled in mark, lets not forget the marks she acquired on her shoulders after saving Heath and Aphrodite from hungry vampire/ghosts! Zoey is also the only one who has shown an affinity for the five elements.

Just when she thought she could finally have a normal school life, well as normal as it can get for her, she now has the responsibility of leading the Dark Daughters. Zoey has big plans in store for the Dark Daughters/Son group; no longer wanting the group to be about being the most popular/beautiful kids in school or Aphrodite herd of friends/worshipers.

All the while Zoey tries to come up with ideas for the Dark Daughter, trouble arises in multiple forms: boys, boys and dead boys. Zoey struggles to deal with her relationship with Eric, her almost Imprinted ex boyfriend, Heath, and new connection to the first vampire Poet in years, Lorien. But those aren't the only boys troubling Zoey's life.  Boys whom she new from her days as a normal teenager have gone missing and have turned up dead around The House of Night. And all signs are pointing to vampire attacks...

*******************************************************

Okay wow when I was typing this up I was trying to make sure I got all the guys names correct, so I tried to google a character list and every site was filled with spoilers! I had to avert my eyes super fast! Luckily, I don't think I read anything that will reveal/ruin much for me. But I think I might have seen something about Heath...sweet lordie I hope I forget it! I forget easily, so it shouldn't be that hard....except I don't forget things about books usually. I can still remember how someone totally spoiled the ending of Harry Potter for me and said who all died. I was like "Um thanks...now I know who dies" and they are like "The movie won't come out for months..you'll forget!" And I still remember!!!! (I haven't read the books!)

I really am starting to like this series. I've read a lot that people think Zoey is kind-of slutty for having multiple guys in her life, but when I start to sort-of agree, I can't choose which guy I want her to be with. Each guy to me plays an important role, sure its kind-of bad to be playing around with that many guys but its not like she is in a committed relationship with any of them but Eric, in a sense. Yeah she tries to tell Heath to stay away and Lorien is a teacher and not much has really developed between them but she isn't dating them. So let her have all three, sheesh!

In this series, I'm surprised to like Zoey's friends. Usually I find the friends either annoying or just not friend worthy material. But!!!!!! I completely adore Stevie Rae. And her accent in the book. I even do my little accent in my head when I read her parts, though I don't really have one...I think? I think Stevie Rae is the kind of friend every girl wants. She listens to your problems, cheers you up, and totally pays attention when your dishing about the hotties who have their eye on you! I really loved a part in the book when Zoey and Stevie Rae were talking about Lorien and she just falls on the bed and swoons about him with Zoey. I wish I still had the book, cause I'd totally quote that part, but I returned it a couple days ago. :(

I would have rated the book a 5 star if one thing didn't happen in the book. I just can't believe that happened. And how bad I want to type it up, but I won't. I'll let you be shocked/angry/surprised/sad when you read it. The whole time I just knew. I just did.

Until recently I thought (like 5 seconds ago ^^) P.C. Cast and Kristen Cast were the same person. Silly me, I know. I kept thinking maybe the P.C. part was kinda a pen name. I'll do better to look into the authors! I think its really cool that they can write together, they must have a very good mother-daughter relationship.(Wonder if they fought over who she should end up with!) I couldn't imagine writing a vampire series with my mom. She can't even stay awake to watch the Twilight movies with me, nor does she feel any sort of excitement about the paranormal stuff.

Anyways, I can't wait to get my paws on the rest of the other books in the series!

Review: Beastly by Alex Flinn

Beastly by Alex Flinn

4/5 stars.

Another book becoming a movie. The trailer alone was enough to make me take a mad dash to my computer and google everything about it and low and behold, it was a book. Of course I had to read it.

*********************************

Kyle Kingsbury has everything any of his peers could ever dream of; good looks, popularity and money. Though Alex is only popular for those other two reasons, money and looks.

But really Kyle doesn't have everything. His mom left him and his dad long ago and never calls. His dad only talks about himself and his work and is rarely ever home. He doesn't even have someone he truly loves. Yet still Kyle thinks he is everything because he is popular. He is even nominated to be the Homecoming Prince, but that doesn't sit well with one student, Kendra Hilferty. Kendra say it isn't right for him to be treated better just because he is better looking than others. Kyle gets angry at Kendra for saying just because they are beautiful doesn't mean they are smarter, stronger, or braver than someone else. He then takes a jab at her for not being smart enough to make herself better looking. Kendra then says "Then you'd better hope you never get ugly, Kyle. You are ugly now, on the inside, where it matters most, and if you ever lost your good looks, I bet you wouldn't be smart or strong enough to get them back. Kyle Kingsbury, you are beastly."

After that little argument in class, Kyle then devises an evil plan to get back at Kendra. To make her feel the worst kind of embarrassment a girl her age can imagine. He asks her to the Homecoming but really he is already going with another girl. He tells he'll buy her ticket and meet up with her there. Come Homecoming night he arrives there even though his night didn't start out so great. His clumsy maid bought the wrong corsage and he ends up giving it to the ticket girl. But things get better when Kendra shows up and he walks in with his other date and laughing at her for thinking he would actually go with someone like her. Kyle hopes for Kendra to cry or do anything but she doesn't. She only tells him she thought he would have made a better decision and that he'll see. Throughout the rest of the night Kyle feels weird and can't stop freaking out about what Kendra means by "You'll see."

After Kyle comes home, he finds Kendra sitting on his bed...

*************************************************

Again tricked by the movie previews into thinking the book and movie would be similar. Of course, they aren't. But none-the-less, the book was enjoyable. Though honestly some parts caught me off guard, like how he begins to interact with Lindy. Spoiler Alert! Spoiler Alert! He kidnaps her?! Seriously? Spoiler Alert! Spoiler Alert!

Throughout a lot of the book I thought he was a complete jerk but then I came to love him as he changed into a whole new person. Took on his beast form, began to see the beauty in other things.

I loved how he didn't build the greenhouse for Lindy but for himself, which it shows him doing in the movie. It made me like him more, but I'm sure the gesture will make me go "Awww" when I see the movie. I'm such a sappy romantic!

I kept comparing the book to the movie and also to Beauty and the Beast. I know its like a modern day Beauty and the Beast but still couldn't stop comparing it. Lindy loves to read, so did Belle. Now if Lindy loved to sing then maybe I would have called copyright issues. Lets not forget the rose part... Also Lindy was always talking care of her father...and to be honest... I hated Beauty and the Beast. Well maybe not hated but I remember the movie scaring me when I was younger.

Read the book, I couldn't put it down. It was very easy to read and enjoyable too.

Review: I Am Number Four by Pittacus Lore

I Am Number Four by Pittacus Lore

4/5 Stars.

I finished this last night and was going to blog about it right away to get my opinion down while the story was still fresh in my mind. Yet, I didn't because when I started to blog I couldn't think of how to refer to the main character or to even how to explain the story line. I'm going to try my best, so bear with me.

**********************************************

I am number Four. I come from the planet Lorien, which was taken over by the Mogadorians. I didn't come to this planet alone, there were 18 of us; 9 Garde's (Ones that develop Legacies(abilities/powers) to protect their planet) and 9 Cepan's (Guardians of the Gardes). We came to this planet to hide from the Mogadorians and to develop our Legacies and one day reclaim Lorien.

Before we left our planet an Elder put a charm on all of the Gardes, to protect us from the Mogadorians. The charm makes sure we can't be killed out of order; though sadly it comes with the defect of not working if we ever meet another Garde, we all become fair game(to be killed). Though if one of us is killed out of order the damage done to the Garde will go back to them.

One is dead. Two is dead. Three is sadly dead too. How do I know? Each time one of us dies a ring burns into my leg telling me one has died. I also know...I am next.

I have yet to develop any of my Legacies but Henri tells me I will some time soon. Who is Henri? He is my Garde, he is like a human's father to me. Together we stay hidden waiting for the day my Legacies show, for the day I can begin training to fight the Mogadorians. But for now, any sign of trouble we pack up and get rid of our currently identities.

Which has lead Henri and I to Paradise, Ohio. I am no longer the person I was in the last city. I am now John Smith. An average American boy, with asthma. You know, to cover up the fact that I'm stronger and faster than averages humans ;)

Though truthfully? I hope we can settle in somewhere. Somewhere I can at least be "normal".

But anyways this is my story. My story in hiding and growing stronger each day. And you never know, find some normal teenage boy stuff.

********************************************

First off, the book and movie I can already tell will be completely different. It will definitely be more action packed than the book is, but don't get me wrong there is action in the book but not like how it is in the movie trailers. Also Henri doesn't have his "French" accent either, though I can live with that. I also kept waiting for him to have an extremely awesome power, cause his Legacies look cool in the movie, but hey those are special effects...so I guess that was changed a little too. I'm hoping they don't leave out Bernie Kosler and Sam Goode, very important characters in the book I must say!!

Though I didn't like how his name was Four. To me its just a number but oh well. Also I can't even remember the book giving a description of him at all, which is odd, but I just imagined Alex Pettyfer, not a bad image I must say. Hehe.

I'm ready for book number two which comes out this year. So I'll have seen the movie and bam later the second book comes out! Though I'm a little sad that Four won't be the main character again. I would have liked it if it was about Four and ******** travel together. (Haha typing this while playing my online game got me killed just a minute ago, blogging and killing a boss = deadly).

Anyways, I look forward to the next book and the movie. Here are some trailers to peek your interest even more!

For those that don't know its becoming a movie!!! Which is why I even found out its a book, so I definitely have to read it before it comes out and know exactly what happens and then totally enjoy the movie! Here are some trailers from the movie! Enjoy!
